Not if first class is still delivered on Saturdays though
The logical first step if not thinking of just how much the business can save, would have been to keep things as they are Monday-Friday and make Saturdays 1st class and tracked only
No act of parliament needed
From a purely operational point of view, switching to a Monday-Friday 2c letter service is a no-brainer and it is what RM really should have done first. It's simpler, fairer to the staff by allowing most posties to have every other Saturday off and wouldn't have needed any parliamentary approval if 1c letters were still being delivered on a Saturday.
But the issue is that RM doesn't want modest savings; they are making out that they are losing millions every day and therefore wants a structural reset. By halving the frequency for the bulk of mail delivery they can cut delivery costs radically and it is all about maximising returns for RM (or more specifically EP Group). By going for the jugular it has created chaos in many offices on the shop floor as it all about pushing the limits of what they can get away with legally while reshaping the workforce with as little compensation as possible.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
Where's the saving from not taking 2c if your going up the path with 1c or tracked anyway?
Seems a little bizarre.
It's about time that RM had the packet scans done by a MC feed into the data that the DTS algorithm uses when it's generating the DTS data that gets sent to the CSS machines.
I would imagine the Facade is the same in England and Wales , how long before the CWU Top men recognise this too ?
"why should it just be the bankers, politicians and the idle rich who get all the best things ? we demand a standard of living for our members that enables them to share in the fine wines and times that the likes of Cameron and his Eton buddies take for granted " - the late great Bob Crow RIP.
Interesting to read this , The CWU and the Reps refuse to continue with this Facade but where does that leave the Workforce on the Floor ?

I doubt that the ROD has any authority to change anything in RM's plan, it'll all be coming from above them. The union probably need to be writing to the level of management above the RODs.
How about something less convoluted. A 5 day letter service. You barely even need to plan for that, you surely wouldn't even need trials.
Because that would require an act of parliament which might take years if it ever got approved.
The 6 day letter service has to stay to avoid government interference.

First the NE division and now Scotland having major breakdown's in industrial relations with RM. RM wanting to do everything their own way without union involvement. Who would have thought it? It's a clear warning to the CWU HQ if that division are openly refusing to engage in the USO rollout.

The pilots are clearly not working or making the savings Royal Mail want , so well done to the CWU for standing up and saying so , the majority on here would be slaughtering the CWU if they sat back and let it come in regardless.

It was -plain to see that the pilots were never going to work as how can anybody deliver 3 days posts, particularly when some offices can't even deliver I days mail at present, the CWU should have never backed the plans in the first place, it's interesting that they are only "standing up" now OFCOM have given RM the green light, so the changes will take place regardless of what the CWU have to now say or do.

This is what they are proposing already,
No its not. I said keep things as they are Monday to Friday i.e every duty goes out every day with all products
Or are you saying this plan is what the union are now saying should happen?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
