What will be happening is that the existing staff will be expected to do more in less time. After all they do state that the cost of handling each item must go down.

If RM don't put the extra staff in, they're going to find MCs failing everyday, when often shifts might have half a dozen casuals and people doing ot and it still goes to the wire. Staff already get moved around depending on where the work is
Having bums on seats has nothing to do with performance standards and in most cases the more bodies you have the less efficient the staff become. Casuals are an inefficient use of resources.

I think one of the things you should be looking over your shoulder at is the level of breaks in an MC, A reduction to a 35 hr week will almost certainly mean bringing mailcentre breaks into line with the rest of the business. 40 minutes max in an 8 hour shift.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Won't be practical for all shifts as some shifts by having the 40mins at the middle it would place it right in the middle of the busiest time. In a DO generally all of your work is available when you start the shift. In a MC what work is available depends on when collections arrive and when lorries arrive from RDCs and other MCs

don't want to give RM ideas but why not organise shifts around arrival profiles, thereby ensuring that when work comes in noone is on a mr
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

bogstandard wrote:This is teamworking by another name, as has been highlighted what happens when one of your "team" is off. Answer the remainder of the team cover it for free until such time that this person is removed entirely and e.g. your team of 5 becomes a team of 4 permanently. yes they'll cover the first person who is off if they have reserves but what are the chances of that, your group will be competing with other groups for a limited, if any, resource.
The "our" in securing our future is those further up the food chain, and certainly not you or me.
Now is the time to reject RM and get 100% behind your union.
How can you be forced to work for free?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
