No
DemonPostie wrote:As I understand it, Scotland are going to get one fewer days off than their brothers and sisters south of the border.
Wrong the rest of the UK is working on 2 Jan = it's only Scotland that aren't.
DemonPostie wrote:However, this year the Royal Mail have decided to make Saturday the 2nd a Non-Service day. this means everyone in the UK receives the day off.
Wrong. http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 15&t=72404" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
3.4 Saturday, 2 January is not a Bank Holiday in Scotland in 2016. It is a designated non-USO day in Scotland (as agreed in perpetuity by Postcomm in 2009 instead of Monday, 4 January when the date falls on a Saturday).
DemonPostie wrote:So we held a vote to ballot for strike action. Not a proper strike, but just a single-day strike on the 4th, to restore the balance. *EVERY SINGLE* member in my office voted in favour, so our local and area reps took it to the national union. And they said No, we can't.

WHAT THE f**k? Why is the CWU ignoring Scottish posties?
They aren't ignoring Scottish Posties, they are ignoring miss-informed posties, and reps who didn't even check the facts before they went to HQ.

To make sure people understand ONLY SCOTLAND IS GETTING 2 JAN AS A NON-SERVICE DAY.

I wonder how many times we have to repeat this before Christmas :left:

The issue isn't one of missing out on days or anything like that.

It's an issue of principle really, why is a Scottish bank holiday treated differently to a UK bank holiday?
If you remove the silly childish nonsense about some getting more holidays than others it really is a strange position for the business to take.

If the 1st of January falls on a Saturday we get a substitute day (Mon), If the 2nd of January falls on a Saturday we don't. So far I've not seen a sensible argument as to why that is the case.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I agree completely Fishtank, and I think Scotland should get both days off, even if it means they get more than the rest of us, but I think the hysterics blaming the Union and those making false claims need to be challenged. If people want to get angry about something they think is unfair, then they need to research the subject thoroughly and use facts, but more importantly, they need to blame the right people not just the easiest target.

So does that mean everyone whos day off falls on the 26th December (Non service day) Should go on strike also?
My day off falls then,Its annoying but more important things in life than crying that others are getting an extra day off.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

If they gave us the 4th as the holiday then we would have to work the Saturday as it would be a normal working day (as it already is in the rest of Royal Mail land)

No they could have made the saturday a non-service day in Scotland, the same as they have with the saturday the week before on 26th december. They already applied for and were granted exemption from the USO for both saturdays.
