Absorbing Hours & Covering for One Another
Aims
• To jointly identify/implement genuine opportunities to absorb outdoor and/or
indoor workload where time exists within approved attendance times/normal
paid work hours.
• To provide sensible options for the business to take advantage of
opportunities to increase efficiency when workload declines, or there are
absences.
• To put in place regular and robust consultation/dialogue between managers
and CWU representatives in respect of the resourcing arrangements.
• To ensure quality of service is not adversely affected by any new
arrangements.

• To reduce the reliance on causal and agency staff wherever possible on an
ongoing basis
• To give people the opportunity to cover for one another or swap duties
providing there is no additional cost to the business, to reduce absence and
assist with domestic situations etc.
• To provide the appropriate training so that employees are multi-skilled and
able to work more flexibly.
• To create a working environment where employees, CWU reps and managers
feel valued and motivated.
• To provide a better work life balance for employees.

Shouldn't be happening. :cuppa

Oh yes, I feel valued and motivated by being (or trying to be) bullied into working over my time for absoloutely no reason or benefit to me.
And my work life is balance is great, I work like a dog, get home fall asleep for a bit, wake up, eat, then think about going to bed - I just love it these days.

Mine is about 50 houses and has massive driveways, low letterboxes, and a couple of busy schools. One school has had a refit recently and the new entrance is a good 5 minutes walk (no access to bike). everyday i leave the office with about 4 heavy bundles of lapsing and loads of packets (all for the same houses everyday i might add) all in all it takes me about 40 minutes on a good day.

My gripe however is someone else has 50 houses from the same round ends up with a couple of light bundles no packets and they are very easy delivery points terraced houses.

I start my lapsing ten minutes before him and he still finishes ten minutes before me so it takes him about 20 minutes. Its not an even share in my eyes. I mentioned this when they first set up this nonsense to the line manager but no result.

Is there anything i can do about it? or is it like everything in Royal Mail at the minute nothing we can do :Boo hoo!
I remember this situation well when we lapsed and it caused massive arguments to say the least :dance

The answer was to ROTATE the sections so everyone had a fair crack of the whip.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

The "side walk"??? Where do you do your lapsing, downtown New York? :Very Happy

(Sorry, one of my pet hates is these creeping Americanisms.... "can I get a coffee"? Do you mean "can I please have a coffee"?)

Am I missing something here with this "Lapsing", when they introduced it i thought that doesn't sound too good to me, working your ass off, running about and not getting paid :no no .... Ohhh I thought I shan't be having any of that nonsence!!!!! Have things changed are they paying you guys now???? Because if they are i might have a bit myself...... Then again if they're not i'll just keep on keeping on doing the job properly.
See i've realised with all the rules and regulations Royal Mail introduce but don't realy want us to adhere to (just use as a stick to beat us up with when something goes wrong :no no :no no ), can be carried out to occupy full duty time and they can't realy then tell you not to put your helmet on every time you cock your leg over your bike, follow exact notification procedure, move your bike to every address etc, etc when they have just briefed you on them so I don't realy bother with this lapsing crack :dance :dance :dance. I just try and impliment everything they tell me, and say if you ain't happy come out with me on delivery and see how correctly i do the job nowadays :Very Happy :Very Happy ........

Have always said,if you have to cut off because of lapsing keep a diary and flag it up.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
