It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well I would have thought it's been said often enough that outdoor work would have to replace indoor work and the only outdoor work is delivery - unless of course you have a broom and an orifice availlable as well.POSTMAN wrote:Who told you that!OnAFlyer wrote:We've got WSM now and were told that the 4 day weeks (10 hour days) would mean deliveries of 5.5-6hrs, F*ck that, i'm not delivering in the dark on the poxy sink estates we deliver to!
Seriously though longer deliveries are inevitable and the union has taken away the fixed delivery span as an enabler - enabling you to remain on full time hours, possibly a 4 day week BUT there is a price to pay. There may be 4 day weeks availalble but I seriously doubt they will be full time.

Re: Cant get this out my system.
Well they WANT 4.5hr deliveries on an 8hr15min day in my place so i don't see why they woudn't want a 5.5-6hr delivery on a 10hr day.
What they want and what they can have are two different things though.

Re: Cant get this out my system.
Our CDVs already do a 4 hour 35 delivery on an 8 hour day, which will inevitably increase. The new move appears to be 1 FT and 1 PT the FT prepares both deliveries and that would keep the delivery time down BUT its having the hours available in the right proportion to do that - we aren't at that stage yet it's just talk and really that's as far as it goes at the moment. Many people here are ready for change but my advice is always don't be too eager to agree anything yet just so you can have a repick, wait it out and there may be concessions as the deadline approaches.Aprilaydee wrote:I hope that's with vans and not walking...shimmyrule wrote:POSTMAN wrote:Who told you that!OnAFlyer wrote:We've got WSM now and were told that the 4 day weeks (10 hour days) would mean deliveries of 5.5-6hrs, F*ck that, i'm not delivering in the dark on the poxy sink estates we deliver to!

We've been here befrore haven't we?
You wont get 5.5hr-6hrs out side work on a 10hr day ffs it's impossible.
I would say 4-5 is doable in the hrs worked, whether you could actually 'do it' is another thing.

Well I am sure that is your measured opinion pmn but what you need to do is find enough MEASURABLE INDOOR work to keep you occupied for four hours. I mentioned quite a while ago that the delivery times would increase proportionate to the hours worked. If you do have to perform a longer delivery then you need to make sure that it IS possible and not some figment of geo routes imagination.POSTMAN wrote:You wont get 5.5hr-6hrs out side work on a 10hr day ffs it's impossible.![]()

Ive been doing 5 hours out the office delivery all this week on a 8 hr day and it a killer. I do use a van so its broken down into half bags but as mine is not rural its still the same amount of walking involved.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Re: Cant get this out my system.
Planners and the CWU rep. 5.5hrs delivery + break + 30 mins to check van and travel to the walks still leave 3hrs+ indoor time. Tbh providing the walk spans were accurate then I can't see a reason why 5.15 in a 10 hr day isn't do-able - we have turned it down though because nobody wants to be walking that long when it's pissing it down or boiling hot.POSTMAN wrote:Who told you that!OnAFlyer wrote:We've got WSM now and were told that the 4 day weeks (10 hour days) would mean deliveries of 5.5-6hrs, F*ck that, i'm not delivering in the dark on the poxy sink estates we deliver to!
And two 5.15 walks when you get hit with council mags, bills and hundreds of light bulbs doesn't bear thinking about.
Has your office got WS machines yet? If not wait for the cuts to start once you do, the hours they claim it saves means the times given for indoor work are cut way down. All our temp FT staff have already been dropped to 25hrs a week with 9am starts.
