Whats the CWU doing about that? The union was fully involved in the relaunch of the WPC's.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑21 May 2025, 16:06No chance, the managers favourite gets to be the workplace coach.tramssirhc wrote: ↑21 May 2025, 15:25Is there an opportunity to move into management? Have you considered the workplace coach role?postmanpatscat2 wrote: ↑21 May 2025, 08:44So what is the process in becoming a manager at royal mali? Obviously you would speak to your manager and find out but before that does anyone on here have any info?
My questions are really:
What do trainee managers get payed? (yes at the very bottom entry point of management.)
Is it really difficult to end up being a DOM on a good wage?
Is there lots of competition?
I have a feeling a lot of these trainee managers just remain at this level witout progressing up the ladder is this true?
The reason I ask I believe it's time to move on to pastures new and I would like to have a go at management. Obviously the first step would be looking close to home where I am already employed and on a stable income. Also looking at the career paths Aldi and like offer..

What's the CWU doing about it? The union was fully involved in the WPC relaunch and the rep should be ensuring the WPC is released to do the role.chickenwittle wrote: ↑21 May 2025, 15:30tramssirhc wrote: ↑21 May 2025, 15:25Is there an opportunity to move into management? No one wants the WPC role in ours.
You certainly wouldn’t be getting money for nothing.
Why do people grudge those doing it the money though? Is it coming out your own pocket?

Is it right that someone earns £44 a week more than everyone else for doing nothing, because that’s what happens in my office.

If that's what's happening it's the CWU's fault. There is absolutely no reason why the WPC would not have anything to do. There's a weekly pro-forma of jobs the WPC must do. It's not money for nothing.chickenwittle wrote: ↑21 May 2025, 16:31Is it right that someone earns £44 a week more than everyone else for doing nothing, because that’s what happens in my office.

What's the union doing about it? There is also absolutely no reason why the WPC being on DPR's would prevent the jobs the WPC must do being done,

It’s always the CWUs fault in your eyes , I would say it’s the managers fault as he’s not utilising the coaches for what they are paid to do .tramssirhc wrote: ↑21 May 2025, 16:47If that's what's happening it's the CWU's fault. Same could be said for management. Alas, if it were like the old days and there was an actual career path and you had to demonstrate competency to move up the pay grades I don't think the service would be in this mess.chickenwittle wrote: ↑21 May 2025, 16:57You do know the union don’t run the company on a day to day basis don’t you .
I don't begrudge people becoming managers and I've seen decent people put themselves forward with an intent to change the workplace environment for the better, but just know that you will have no agency to put your intentions into practice. Whatever extra money you get is really hazard pay for the flak you will take from frontline staff on behalf of the demented upstairs.
Speaking of, they really need to send senior management "Down to the Countryside" as Mao commanded. From what I've heard through the chain of command, they really have no understanding of delivery.
The machine stops.

I can see the sense in this. It should be a prerequisite of employment as an RM manager that you have first worked as a postie for at least two years.

Re: Becoming royal mail manager
The majority of managers I’ve had over 30 years have all experienced delivery, the problem is they forget about that as soon as they turn manager and follow instructions from above regarding savings and bonuses and lose empathy with their ex colleagues.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑21 May 2025, 19:12I can see the sense in this.
