Re: Seasonal hours
There's meant to be a post implementation review as soon as we go back to normal hours in September.Perseus wrote: ↑19 Aug 2024, 17:52You're about 2 moves ahead of what I'm asking.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 Aug 2024, 16:43I can see them times being made later anyway. The last lorry that's meant to only have about a dozen yorks on it is often a full-up double stacker. We lost our later 2C run in to the network so if both inward and 2C get really busy I'm guessing that priority will have to be given to the 2C with the inward going out later
There was some noise a few months ago about CWU pressing to get better times out of the company, but I've heard nothing since. I'm asking if there have been any, even small, successes in this.

Re: Seasonal hours
Earlier!
Walked in on Saturday to see a union newsletter sitting on my frame. Had a read and became pissed off reading the same thing as the last one: 'our times only moved 15 minutes, it's not that bad', ad infinitum. Not up here it's not!
How long until no-one is delivering in the AM period? You'd think that would be our great distinction from all the other many many many couriers out in the afternoon. Instead everyone is chasing after the same midnight orders. Talk about a distorted market.
The machine stops.

Re: Seasonal hours
Times moving by 'x' amount is the biggest red herring ever and there seems to be a veil of secrecy around the ACTUAL start and finish times, with zero transparency about how they have been achieved. In short, a 15,20,30,40 minute later finish time was always going to be easier to swallow for offices that worked 6:30am to 13:30pm for instance.Mr Rush wrote: ↑21 Aug 2024, 16:27Earlier!In a relative sense only. I will increase my union dues tenfold if a 9AM first letter comes back.

It's not as if every office was already starting and finishing at the same time, in fact there were already 1hr differences within offices fairly close to each other that get served by the same Mail Center etc.

Re: Seasonal hours
What I can't understand is why in our DO everybody has to start 40 mins later, 60 mins at present, apart from the handful doing IPS, when there's plenty of mail and parcels to be sorted when we start, then when the second wave arrives we still have loads of mail and parcels to sort, meaning we've getting out a lot later than we really need to be leaving the DO. We're also still having to deliver LATs in the afternoons so not sure what savings are really being made by the later starts.Perseus wrote: ↑21 Aug 2024, 18:17Times moving by 'x' amount is the biggest red herring ever and there seems to be a veil of secrecy around the ACTUAL start and finish times, with zero transparency about how they have been achieved. Re: Seasonal hours
The company seems hell bent on having most people delivering at 4pm through the 6-8 week Christmas period. To facilitate this later period the whole network is moving for the whole year. Is a more extreme seasonal variation the solution? 10 months of the year the times go back to what they were, November and December we just suck it up.TopperGas wrote: ↑21 Aug 2024, 18:28What I can't understand is why in our DO everybody has to start 40 mins later, 60 mins at present, apart from the handful doing IPS, when there's plenty of mail and parcels to be sorted when we start, then when the second wave arrives we still have loads of mail and parcels to sort, meaning we've getting out a lot later than we really need to be leaving the DO. They probably want the LATs to go out with normal deliveriesTopperGas wrote: ↑21 Aug 2024, 18:28What I can't understand is why in our DO everybody has to start 40 mins later, 60 mins at present, apart from the handful doing IPS, when there's plenty of mail and parcels to be sorted when we start, then when the second wave arrives we still have loads of mail and parcels to sort, meaning we've getting out a lot later than we really need to be leaving the DO. Re: Seasonal hours
Another complete mess agreed by the CWU,when i tell people about the seasonal hours outside of Royal Mail they always say what idiot came up with that stupid idea,i say "the doughnuts who run Royal Mail and the clowns who agreed to it,you really couldn't make it up .
