RISE FESTIVAL

Post by Big Daz »

Dear Colleague

Rise Festival

The CWU are pleased to confirm that the Union will be actively supporting the Greater London Assembly's Rise Festival, the showpiece event to celebrate London 's diversity.

The day to put in your diaries is Sunday 15th July 2007 and the venue is Finsbury Park in North London . The CWU had a stall at last year's incredibly successful event and will again do so this year. Last year over 100,000 people attended the Rise Festival and similar to last year there will be a number of different stages such as African Village , Big Cuba Fiesta, Crescent stage, Underground stage and the Mela stage. In addition to this, the main stage will host a number of artists such as De La Soul, Roy Ayers and many others.

If there is sufficient interest in attending this event we would urge Branches/Regions to consider organising coaches to attend the Rise Festival. It is important that Branches and Reps actively encourage 'ordinary' members to attend this event which will hopefully indicate the significance of Trade Unions to a 'layer' of members that has not yet been 'switched on' by the CWU.

The CWU are looking to making its stall, as child-friendly as possible, and with this in mind, we are asking if there are any reps/members who have any skills that we could utilise on the day - do you have any members in your branch who are skilled in face-painting or juggling, or some other form of entertainment that would be good to use on the day? Please contact dgittens@cwu.org or jthair@cwu.org if you are able to assist us in this respect.

We would urge all Branch Secretaries to give this LTB the widest possible circulation.

Yours sincerely,
