Corby postie Eve Walker is one of those who has managed to keep working this week.
Hundreds of big-hearted Corby folk have left messages for their Covid-hit postwomen and men.
Our story yesterday (Saturday, January 16) told how sixteen posties in the town had tested positive for Covid after an outbreak at the Crucible Road delivery office, with dozens more self-isolating.
Their illness had led to some delays in post being received across the town - but the overwhelming message from people living in Corby was that their posties should concentrate on getting better.
Hundreds left messages on our Facebook page asking after their own regular postmen and women and making sure they were OK.
Corby resident Denise Kane said: “You guys were our heroes in the first lockdown. Speedy recovery to those isolating.”
Marie Sludden Couse said: “Get well soon and thanks for the fantastic job you do.”
Darren Carson said: “Missing John my regular postie, keep safe all.”
And Jeanette Hancock commented: “Let’s hope they all have a speedy recovery. Another of our forgotten key workers who have had extra work and have had to work right through it all.”
Chris James Richardson said: “Want to send my warm wishes and speedy recovery to all those affected. Hope you’re back doing the job you do best.”
And Breda Mahon Innes said: “Take care of yourselves, we need to see you all well again. Corby heroes!”
Postwoman Eve Walker posted a picture of herself on her round and said: “A few of us still going strong. Thanks for the well wishes on behalf of all at Corby Delivery Office.”
