LTB 502/20 – National Joint Statement for National Deployment of Inflight & Redelivery Enhancements
No. 502/20

October 19th 2020

Dear Colleagues,

National Joint Statement for National Deployment of Inflight & Redelivery Enhancements

Further to LTBs 279/20 and 429/20 which detailed a number of initiatives regarding Royal Mails plan to introduce a full suite of Inflight and Redelivery enhancements, have been now been listed below for ease of reference.
  • • Deliver Different Day
    • Post Office Local Collect
    • CSP Local Collect
    • Deliver to Preferred Neighbour
    • Deliver to Safeplace
    • Next Day Redelivery
As a result of the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic full national deployment was delayed, however after successful activities regarding pilot activity regarding Phase 1 and Phase 2, through discussions with Royal Mail it has now been confirmed that all of the necessary safeguards required have been addressed.

As such the Postal Executive has now agreed the attached Joint Statement to expand Inflight phase 2 to full National Deployment commencing on 26th October 2020. This will allow more customers to benefit from these additional features in the current environment and support further improvements to first time delivery nationally.

In moving to National Deployment units will need to review and ensure all the necessary training materials for individuals have been communicated and delivered. Workplace Coaches will be tasked to refresh and train those individuals who have not already been trained as a matter of urgency and before national go live dates.

Given that this will be a new product offering it will require a period of time for volumes to stabilise, in order for the necessary industrial engineering studies to be completed and understood in relation to current or revised planning values. Both parties have agreed that the local DOM and Rep will review any workload implications for either the indoor operation or for delivery routes at Weekly Resourcing Meetings and if additional resourcing arrangements are required this will be agreed and the necessary measures put in place based on the local circumstances.

It is reaffirmed that Health & Safety and SSOW are of paramount importance to both Royal Mail and the CWU and any emerging issues will be dealt with through the reviews which after 1 month will be via a touch point National review, in order to ensure any upfront issues identified are quickly resolved, along with a review of operational processes. A further Joint National Review will take place 3 months from launch in order to both review and evaluate what the effect and impact is on the operation, in terms of additional workload and time associated with the new process and that this will then be taken into consideration within the agreed planning and resourcing tools.

Any queries to the content of the above please contact the Outdoor Department reference 535 email address: outdoorsecretary@cwu.org.

Yours sincerely,
Mark Baulch
CWU Assistant Secretary

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Do these people even visit delivery offices? 22 year postie here....i've never seen it so bad. So many walks that don't go out each day. I'm all for new revenue streams but surely we have to do the basics right first???? In before royal mail announce they can't deal with the amount of work anymore due to 'covid'. In our office they have stopped paying overtime to anyone. You take a day off you have double the next day standard. You ask to work your day off they say no cos they can make you do all that same work the next day for nothing. This whole year is about proving to our regulators that we can't cope anymore so the law gets changed.
