No surprise I guess but for your info:

Post by greynut »

I was told today by a line manager that the late starts and delay of the missort run is on the instructions of senior managers. They have been told that posties must work later. It does not matter if they are ready. This missort runs are being delayed on purpose to "inconvenience" posties as senior management have been fed up with the early finishes in the past.

To me this is idiotic as we still have a chance to deliver the mail some days at least half an hour earlier if the missort run was allowed to run properly.

I guess we are really being told now that the management have us by the short and curlys. Because no other business would waste hours in this way. For instance on Tuesday we were all ready at 8.15 to leave and the missorts came in at 9.15. And there were.....wait for it.......... 3 letters. We sat around for an hour, not allowed to leave and pretty fed up.

Whats the point?

I have heard it mooted that because everyone is ready early then if the misort hub was to be dropped there would be scope for additional work. Say IPS, housekeeping, deads, etc. What they fail to recognise and here some are the architects of their own downfall is that people are coming in as much as an hour early without pay.

Thank fuk we don't have to wait on a missort run in our office, practically an island here.

As for folk coming in early :evil/mad I heard on the radio the other day that many folk do this in the uk and are basically working for nothing into February before they start earning their money, crazy

It was my post and I never mentioned people coming in early???? Why put words in my mouth. I NEVER mentioned coming in early. You have twisted the point of the post.

I certainly don't. I arrive at 6.15 on the dot. But I can still be ready to leave at say 8.15 on a light Tuesday. But the missort run is delayed to delay the posties. The driver of the missort run says that he could easily be at the office by 8.30. So whats the point of sitting on your fat arses for 45 minutes to an hour.

Sometimes I think we are blinded by the 'Do the job properly' retoric. I do 'do the job properly' and I am ready to go out, but I am delayed by management. We are in a customer service industry by the way and my customers want their post earlier the better.

I think that both the management and the 'Do the job properly' crew don t see past the front gates. Tell your customers that we have been sitting around for an hour, not being let out by management and they go bananas. Tell you what if DHL or anyone else decide to deliver post, the first thing they will do is make sure it gets out BEFORE the competion and then we are truly f****d my friends.

There is a lot of sense in what greynut is saying. Customers on my (fairly well to do) walk are fed up with later deliveries. A woman from the walk next door staffed with a late starting part timer had a right pop at me about getting her post in the middle of the afternoon.

I just remind them of the good old days of 07:00 - 09:30 and let them know it is entirely down to the management in the ivory towers they have later deliveries and no second post any more because A & A insist that is a better service to customers.

And they seriously wonder why traffic in social mail is down.........

Sat around for an hour in the morning and the next thing we know management will try imposing a further hour later start for us all - and we get all the flak from the customers about the post being delivered 'late'.

Did I say you came in early? The point of my post is that SOME come in early and are ready to go an hour before they are allowed, some come in at their start time and are still ready to go an hour before they are allowed. Do they take their break, many do not, managers think that there is some slack time to be used up for indoor activities. The customer may well want their mail early but in Russia they say tuffski shitski the powers that be decide when they get their mail and it is liable to be later than earlier.
