MRM.COM : Who decides in Royal Mail whether someone has 'disregarded public health guidance' while catching the Coronavirus?

In recent days, the UK has seen a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, and the new ‘rule of six’, which applies to indoor and outdoor settings (excluding workplaces), is now legally enforceable.

Please be vigilant, abide by the law and observe best practice hand hygiene and social distancing measures wherever possible.

We know most of our people continue to follow the guidelines and behave in a responsible way. This is why Royal Mail has adopted a supportive approach for colleagues who are required to self-isolate due to Covid-19 by applying our normal sick pay policy. In most cases, this provides support above the statutory sick pay recommended by Government.

However, providing enhanced sick pay is dependent on the absence not being caused by or aggravated by the employee. Where, in the reasonable view of the company, there is evidence of a colleague’s disregard for public health guidance, which then leads to them needing to self-isolate, Royal Mail sick pay will not be paid.

Following public health guidance is critical both within and outside Royal Mail. The health, safety and wellbeing of our people is paramount, and we also want our colleagues to be able to trust each other to do the right thing.

Let’s all do our bit to follow the guidance to keep our colleagues, families, friends and the communities we serve, safe

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

My understanding of this could be that it is for those who choose to go on holiday, to a country that has been placed on the high risk list, knowing that they will or may have to self isolate upon return.
I may be wrong but how else could they have someone to prove where you caught it?

The trouble is without an exhaustive Joint Whatever there will be grey areas and screws willing to use them for their own advantage.

""Ooh I can cause financial hardship to some as a warning to others AND get brownie points and a better bonus!"

Screws don't care about enforcing the procedures so any dumbass runner invading my space to grab the mail I'm sorting gets an elbow accidentally on purpose.
"A third of the world's farmland is now useless due to soil degradation, yet we still keep producing mouths to feed. And what's you answer to that? Energy saving lightbulbs?"
