Bomb found at mail sorting office (UPDATED)

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7254968.stm

A bomb has been found at the Royal Mail's sorting office in Mallusk, County Antrim.

The building was evacuated shortly after the device, which was described as viable and unstable, was discovered at about 1145 GMT on Wednesday.

It was made safe by Army technical officers and has been taken away for forensic examination.

Police have said they are not investigating a sectarian or terrorist motive in connection with the attack.

Thomas Burns, the SDLP assembly member for South Antrim, described those behind the bomb as reckless and "foolish beyond belief".

"Their grossly irresponsible behaviour has endangered the lives of the men and women who work at this location and that is absolutely unforgivable," he said.

My highly unstable DUM was sent to the MC for an interview today but he couldn't be described as viable.

Detectives confirmed yesterday that they were not investigating a sectarian or terrorist motive in connection with the attack.
Then they are not doing their job properly. Terrorists on both sides have been planting bombs all over the place for decades. It's the first thing they should be looking for.

Since the police in NI have been investigating bombings, bombs and arms caches since 1969 they are very good at the forensics involved and can usually tell within a few days which particular terror organisation, on both sides, they are dealing with. Of course the evidence on scene may also point to a non terrorist involvement such as a letter targeting someone for a particular personal slight. Just because it was a bomb does not mean it was sectarian,it may just be a lover tiff taken to extremes. They have ruled out terrorists but I am sure they checked it out before dismissing the possibility.

Anyway the terrorists are very good at making bombs so it was probably just some petrol and matches not a really complicated letter bomb.
