Saturdays/ Long Weekends off when floating

Post by mh80 »

Can anyone tell me - If you are covering different deliveries from week to week are you entitled to the same number of long weekends as you would be if you were on the same delivery all the time?
I ask because I have had about 3 long weekends in the 2 years I've worked at RM because I've never spent more than a couple of weeks on one delivery.
:mad
thanks

I float around duties but I've never had a long weekend, in fact whenever the duty I'm put on has either a Saturday or a Monday off they always change it so that I never get it :mad

And people wonder why I get angry especially whenever I get sold down the river by the union (un)leadership.

weekends Off

Post by Wiltshireboy »

Ive been on this job coming up on 3 years. I am a day off reserve, so thats a different walk every day. However,I have always had my normal day off, although it is a rolling day off. This means I get my regular weekends off as well. The guys who have started after me, get their day off, but not the weekends. :hmmmm

used to do this as my duty, i was told that whatever round you were on you would take there day off so as not to mess things up

hardly ever worked though, as i knew a lot of rounds they would move you around, think on purpose so as you never had a long weekend

covered duties on sick that had a permanent long weekend and they would always either move me before the weekend or change things around

like it as i the variety was ok, but you couldn't plan anything, so at the repick i got out of it

that is always what happens to me!
i don't get it, people who joined at the same time as me who ended up covering a regular walk get the saturdays off when it rolls round to it.

totally unfair, is there nothing that says you are entitled to the same number of saturdays or long weekends?

That is totally unfair. Everyone should be able to have a long weekend every 6 weeks. I always thought that floating cover was a short term solution not a permanent one. This needs to be sorted, you guys have my sympathy, but what if anything will the union do about it?

Reserves and part timers are entitled to exactly the same time off as a person holding a full time duty. If your not getting treated the same you need to speak to your Rep and lodge a grievance based on the fact that you are either being discriminated against or are not being treated fairly and equally.

Part timers and Leave Reserves are entitled to exactly the same pay, terms and conditions as post men/women covering a duty. They have a life outside of work and or home life the same as everyone else working for RM, and it pisses me off to see them treated differently. :evil/mad

weekends off.

That is SUPPOSED to be the plan, but our small office, is tied in with 2 other offices a few miles away on Salisbury Plain,(1 manageress). She decided that any newbies( reserves) after she came, would get a day off in the week, on a rolling basis. The weekend off however would be on an as and when basis. I always thought this was wrong. The whole company is screwed up I think.

Your DOM or line manager should be keeping a log of duties you have done and ensuring that you are treated fairly - you are entitled to the same considerations as staff on their own walks - at least to ensure that for health and safety reasons that you get a decent rest period - complain (quite justifiably) about it.

weekends off

Post by Wiltshireboy »

I actually get my day off,(rolling) and my weekend off.I was the last one to be kept on the "old" system ,as it was. Everyone sfter me went on this, day off whenever and get sent as a floating reserve to the other 2 offices.Im glad im not with them, but it does suck for the other guys, and I do feel sorry for them. The manageress :evil/mad says she has the autonomy to run her offices as she sees fit. :confused

Sometimes I just can't believe how bad RM runs itself! We do a 5 week on and a week off, works well, the grabbers get to make their money by coming in on their rota, the rest of us get a nice week or 2 off. We still have a couple of people who are on a rolling day, and that works as you'd expect ie every so often (I suppose its every 6 weeks) you get a long week end. All reserves get the same time as the full timers ie if you're on a 6 week rotate the you get your 6th week off.

I can't believe how offices allow themselves to be pissed about, we try and have the same rules for everyone in the office, makes any hassle a lot easier to deal with, and it makes the DOMs job of trying to split the office a lot harder.

It all depends on the duty your covering, if its due a long weekend and your on that duty for 2 weeks then yes if not then no, you will just get the saturday off. You are entitled to work 5 days with a day off and thats it i'm afraid.
