Dreading

Dreading going in this morning. Last week was one of the hardest weeks I've had. The number of parcels has been phenomenal. With the news of 30 million letters, continuation of D2Ds and that it will be like this for at least 6 months with shopping now all mainly online. It's not physically sustainable for me and probably others, particularly with reduced number/failed walks from previous days. It's modern day slavery.

Rico got what he wanted. Didn't he say we need to increase the number of parcels we deliver due to post dropping off?

I looked at Amazon and it's giving me 15 days for delivery of a non-essential item. I assume it's been like this since the lock down, so if customer's are patient and willing to wait, and other companies are following a similar practice it may mean an onslaught of non-essential items in the next few weeks. We're busy now, but we could be really, really busy in a few weeks.

Not much mail today but about a gazillion packets of crap that bored people on lock down are buying.

At least they are all in which saves writing out shut notices....

Did make a comment to a few of them about having to walk around in a pandemic delivering essential items and at least they had the good grace to look embarrassed.......

Personally think the arse is gonna drop out of both mail and parcels. Give it a few weeks we'll only be delivering parcels from the high end online stores to people that can afford not to be financially worried.

If that does happen then I reckon RM will just use the LAT hubs, closing all other offices

yeah, but are they employing extra staff or not? no overtime? just making people take out 2 days post. So no extra wages being paid out?

That would make sense although in hindsight of my previous comment, we would still need to be providing a skeleton service for NHS and Gov material.

I think mail is going to drop massively and sadly who knows if it will ever go back up. The internet and email have destroyed letters which is the core of Royal Mails income due to ££££££ per volume.

Packets are going up due to shops being shut but in the packet market we are fighting in a race to the bottom with DHL, DPD, Hermes, FCX, DX,Yodel...

I'm fearful this virus will destroy our jobs

Not forgetting that most of the mail comes to us via Whistl , UK Mail , OnePost , The Delivery Group etc , nearly every magazine comes via one of these , The Radio Times can't seem to make up their minds.
I fail to see how we make any money delivering for them.

they aren't letting people work their days off, but they still have earlies in and are paying you if you go over.
