THE future of the Bishop Street sorting depot in Coventry will be discussed at a meeting with Royal Mail chiefs today.

Cllr Kevin Foster (Con, Cheylesmore), cabinet member for city development, will host a meeting with the Royal Mail's area director Michael Stockdale, mail centre project manager Kevin Cooper and project leader Adrian Hockin.

Labour MP for Coventry North-east Bob Ainsworth and Cllr Hazel Noonan (Con, Cheylesmore) cabinet member for city services, will also be present at the talks at the Council House.

The Coventry Telegraph reported earlier this week how Royal Mail bosses will look at the possibility of siting the sorting office in Ansty after a House of Commons meeting with Jim Cunningham, Labour MP for Coventry South.

Under Royal Mail's current proposal, to close Bishop Street sorting office in favour of a site in Northamptonshire, 400 Coventry workers could lose their jobs.

Cllr Kevin Foster said: "With so many local jobs at stake it is vital that local politicians work together to fight this proposal."
