Isolation and previous sickness

Post by bergos »

I have been advised that due to being a Type 1 Diabetic that I should Isolate for however long this situation lasts.

In the past, I have had to be off sick due to complications with my health that meant I needed a few operations and I used up all my full pay and half pay sickness. I was off for over a year and came back to work in May 2019, Since that time I have had a couple of days off sick that were unpaid due to the amount of time I had previously had off from work.

I am wondering in light of this situation, does anybody know if Royal Mail will continue to pay me, or if i will have to get SSP, I have not seen any clear information regarding this situation so if anybody has any it would be greatly appreciated.

Isolation and previous sickness

We understand that early next week the NHS will be sending a letter to individuals who they categorise as vulnerable due to an underlying condition.

This will provide specific advice about what the individual should do and cover people who are at a particularly high risk of getting seriously ill with coronavirus. The medical conditions which we understand are covered include people who:
  • • have had an organ transplant and are taking immunosuppressant medicine • are having chemotherapy or radiotherapy • have blood or bone marrow cancer, such as leukaemia
    • have a severe chest condition, such as cystic fibrosis or severe asthma
    • have another serious health condition If an employee believes that they are vulnerable due to an underlying health condition then they should have a communication / certificate from their GP. To summarise this would we say those who usually get the annual flu jab for free – a good guide but NHS will be in touch.
What we know...

The Government is advising those who are at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19) to be particularly stringent in following social distancing measures. This includes people: aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions); and adults under 70 with an underlying health condition including diabetes,

If you have to self isolate...

b) Self-isolation, testing and reporting
What is the latest government advice re self-isolation for employees?

The situation is constantly changing and you should check Public Health England guidance for the latest advice
on this area.

Our understanding of the current position is that employees could be isolating for between 7 and 14 days and
this could be extended by around a week if they develop symptoms during self-isolation.

All absences should be treated as sickness absence. Managers should choose “Coronavirus with Symptoms” if
the employee has symptoms and “Coronavirus Self Isolation” if they do not have symptoms. Please update the
absence if the reason for absence changes.

Diabetes seems to be a funny one at the mo, not very clear from what I've searched.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
