It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

LTB 137/20 Royal Mail Group - Coronavirus Latest Questions & Answers Guidance (V12) Dated 17 March 2020, Managers Update, Guidance, Links, Support & Good Practice Posters:
Q1. A colleague has a child whose school is closed and needs to be at home to look after them – how do I support the individual?
Where a colleague has to look after a dependant, such as a child, our normal approach applies. Colleagues can take holiday, unpaid time off or work flexibly. They should agree this with their line manager.
Q2. A colleague has less than a year’s service and is worried about losing pay if they go off with symptoms of coronavirus.
Exceptionally, to support employees who should not be attending work, Royal Mail has temporarily changed the sick pay for employees with less than a year’s service.
Where the absence is related to coronavirus, these employees will receive the same sick pay as employees with over a year’s service. This will be in place until the end of March 2020, although we will continue to monitor the situation and may change this.
Q3. Will absences due to coronavirus be counted within the attendance procedure?
We would expect the vast majority of coronavirus absences to be discounted from the normal attendance procedure. However, in the event coronavirus absences are for an excessive duration or repeat in nature further investigation may be required.

There's a bit of a loophole in the system and I'm going to tell you cause I'm good like that.
According to NHS guidance.
If you get the symptoms you have to self isolate for 7 days, if you live with other people THEY have to self isolate for 14 days. This is to allow them time to catch the lurgie and then for it work its way through the system but you're good to go after 7 days.
So you're potentially off back to work after 7 days while your other half puts their feet up for another week. Now I don't know how it works in your house but I've decided I'm not going first.

I suppose like you say, if you live with someone just do the 14 day thing f**k it, I would.
But then let's say after 14 days you're still ill, it could happen, everyone's different.
You would have to stay off longer, or has the virus got a stop watch?

My understanding is all household members must have 7 days isolation after they show definitive symptoms such as continuous cough, regardless of when the "14 day household isolation" started after household member #1 showed symptoms.POSTMAN wrote:I suppose like you say, if you live with someone just do the 14 day thing f**k it, I would.

That's no doubt when it will get messy with the 'Absence related to coronavirus will normally be discounted except in cases of multiple isolation and isolation longer than government guidelines' thing but the government guidelines do tell you it's 7 days after first symptoms.
If you're having serious symptoms for more than seven days you have to contact NHS and I think although I don't know that you'll send up some red flags if you do.
They do say you'll still have a cough for a while after it's run its course but you can go back to work with the cough.

b) Self-isolation, testing and reporting
Our understanding of the current position is that employees could be isolating for between 7 and 14 days and this could be extended by around a week if they develop symptoms during self-isolation.
There is a new version out v14, not sure if the above is new or we missed it, anyway, clarifies a bit.
Have added v14 in PDF to 2nd post
