As I’m in this group I check the latest news on this matter and I believe that the 12 week avoidance of social contact has changed to only apply to the more serious group ie cancer sufferers etc but it might change in a minute. I’m relying solely on the advice on Gov.uk

My partner has asthma- this is so worrying. If she is to self isolate for weeks, surely im a huge threat to her if im going into work everyday?

We are advising those who are at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19) to be particularly stringent in following social distancing measures.
This group includes those who are:

aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions)
under 70 with an underlying health condition listed below (ie anyone instructed to get a flu jab as an adult each year on medical grounds):
chronic (long-term) respiratory diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema or bronchitis
chronic heart disease, such as heart failure
chronic kidney disease
chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis
chronic neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), a learning disability or cerebral palsy
diabetes
problems with your spleen – for example, sickle cell disease or if you have had your spleen removed
a weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy
being seriously overweight (a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above)
those who are pregnant

well i cant see why not its not anyone's fault this is happening if you need to be largely shielded from social contact for around 12 weeks you have no option as this could be a life or death situation for some you need to stay safe just follow all guidelines from the government

I had a heart attack 25 years ago i am 60 and on blood pressure tablets and cholesterol. Also have to have the free flu jab .been told by the manager I'm not elegable for the 12 week social distancing. Is that right .how can I find out .I think he just wants to keep as many people in as possible

Hi I'm 53 yr old postie with type 2 diabetes,should I be self isolating ? don't take sick days very often but I am concerned I fall in the higher risk category and taking up to 12 weeks off makes me very uneasy as don't trust royal mail sticking to its new disapliary procedures. any advice ?

Line Managers still aren't taking things seriously. They speak to you like your an idiot when you try and tell them you are concerned about your health condition being on the list. I'm going to wait until Friday and see what the government have to say. I don't want to end up on a ventilator or worse because of a Lineo and his imaginary medical degree!

I am also on this list. Dom told me I could isolate for three months if I had a valid medical certificate. Problem is, the doctors are not writing out in sick/fit notes. So I guess I can take 3 month off and they are not going to pay me.

When Boris announced this he said that more information would be provided by this weekend. When he releases the further details then you will effectively have a sicknote signed by the PM. Tell your DOM that you'll see him in 12 weeks - if that period isn't extended.

Royal Mail need to respond NOW to confirm exactly what evidence they will need of your condition. Around 14% of the population fall within these vulnerable groups. If you need to hassle your GP for a letter confirming that you meet the criteria then this will apply to potentially 15,000 RM employees all having to do the same in the next few days. I'm sure that GPs will be delighted. They have absolutely nothing else to do at the moment.

Come on Royal Mail. Get your finger out and give a clear message to your managers and staff NOW.

rm need to follow the government guidelines on this the bottom line is if you fall into any of the stated conditions you need to do what the government are telling you to do .... this is to keep you safe covid 19 attacks the lungs if you have asthma etc and contract this virus you could find yourself very ill worse case fighting for your life this also goes for other medical conditions rm need to man up get a grip of what is going on and put out statements to the workforce instead of the usual threatening bulling behavior that comes from managers ......and as for not paying people because they have medical conditions this is singling out people who need to be largely shielded from social contact ....if rm force this issue and god forbid people with medical conditions catch the virus and die because you where forced to go to work they could find themselves in a lot of s**t when this is over ..... stay safe
