Social media users have sparked a bizarre new trend that sees them following Britain’s postmen whilst blasting the Postman Pat theme music in their car.

The craze has divided online users with some branding the viral trend “bullying” but others praising the stunt.

A series of videos show drivers lurking in their cars as Royal Mail posties go about delivering mail in the UK.

The drivers then start playing the song made famous by the iconic show at full volume as they relentlessly follow postmen on their rounds.

The Postman Pat Challenge has drawn hugely different reactions from those targeted with some laughing off the lyrics and others appearing to take offence at the prank.

The challenge is believed to have surged in popularity after an old video featuring the prank re-surfaced.

In a viral clip posted on video-sharing social media network TikTok, the postman is seen becoming increasingly annoyed as he continues to be stalked by someone.

It received thousands of comments with many condemning the joke. One said: “Poor man tryna (sic) just do his job.”

Another added: “This is classed as bullying”, while many more think the postmen are being “abused”.

But others disagreed. One said: “I work for Royal Mail and I find it funny. Miserable sod.”

Another claimed: “If I was a postman I’d think it was funny.”

In another video posted on the site the postman is seen casually waving at the cameraman as he blasts the Postman Pat theme tune at full volume in his car.

Postman Pat was a hugely successful animated series running from 1981 to 2006.

It followed the adventures of Pat Clifton and his loyal ‘black and white’ cat Jess as he delivered the post in the fictional village of Greendale.

Often get children at infant schools calling me postman Pat or small children out with their mum's and I don't find that a problem. I guess postman Pat is still shown on the TV? Adults doing this in cars is a bit sad & pathetic on their part though.

This story made it on to the Jeremy Vine show this morning and whilst it was all lighthearted ,but on
seeing different pictures of posties working the bold Lowri Turner pipes up that when was a postie
she had to carry a big sack on her back " nothing like it is today" probably wearing high heels as well ....

Unfortunately it's hard to encourage posties to not carry pouches of mail on their backs even now.
