Hi, ive just this moment been given a start date for RM, but from what I have seen and heard, a possible strike is on the horizon. As a new starter will I be asked to go on strike and will it look bad on myself going forward if i do as it is a 6 month trial, thanks.

The option will be left up to you, but the Union should help you.

In essence, as we will be balloted it will be an official strike if the Vote returns Yes for such.

As it is a legal strike there are protections in place and they can not sack you just taking part in official industrial action. You will have the same protections as CWU members do, even if you are not in the Union, so I would read up on them and keep an eye on the Union page here for any briefings or updates.

I will add and say that in all honesty its a gamble if you go on strike and its a gamble if you cross the picket line, only you can make that decision and RMC will try to keep you informed, and other members, so that the decision you make is an informed one.

Thanks for answering my query, i will be signing up for union ASAP. Its good to see a union fighting for its members for a change, I was a shop steward in my previous job and the union was garbage. They were'nt called Useless Seven Days A Week for nothing.

Well ours has wrecked our pensions, given us unsustainable delivery spans while disregarding the health problems that inevitably follow and failed miserably to challenge the culture of bullying in delivery offices, so it might be a case of out of the frying pan ......
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I was made redundant from my previous job and the toothless union didnt bat an eyelid, I dont think any union can be as bad as USDAW. There was a written agreement between USDAw and those who shall remain nameless, that under no circumstances would industrial action be allowed.

I'm sure if you asked for your day off to be the same day as the proposed strike, you DOM would happily oblige?
