First week pay!

Post by solarx »

Hi All,

I have my induction day on the 7th may (Tuesday) as its bank holiday Monday. And then DO on Wednesday. I know that pay day is Friday, but I am getting conflicting info about what I will be paid.

Some people are saying you will still get you're 30 contracted hours pay and others say you will get paid from the Tuesday onwards ?
Also my rostered day off would normally be a Tuesday.

Any ideas people :)

A full week would be 30 hours, not (normally) which days you worked.

If your Induction Day is Tuesday and you work Wed to Sat at the DO you should be paid for 30 hours, that is assuming you are on 6 hours a day. If you do more than 6 hours any day, especially on the Induction Day, you'll need to claim for it. The overtime is paid the following week.

Unless your contract states every Tuesday off, your day off should change week by week - and certainly shouldn't be every Tuesday!!! Tuesday is usually the quietest day and some offices try and put all newbies/reserves on Tuesday off every week.

I’m starting after the second May bank holiday, with my induction on that Tuesday. It says on my letter that the induction day won’t be paid until my second week - not sure why.

Possibly because its not in the DO you'll be working at, so a different person/section/office would have to process it. Or things may have changed since I started and they'll pay you for however long you are at the Induction Day for, without an overtime claim - or it may be so the cost of you being there isn't taken against the DO's budget. With RM it could be anything!

Not great, but at least you know that is the case.

I don't know the pay rates but I've just looked at a few vacancies being advertised and they all show £10.25 per hour so I guess that's the rate including the recent pay rise. You should also get the Delivery Supplement which is £20.26 a week for 30 hours. Your first 8 hours of overtime should be paid at the same hourly rate and pro-rata Delivery Supplement rate (about 67.5p per hour).

I started on a Tuesday too back in February. You won’t get paid for the Monday as you didn’t start for employment for RM until your induction day which was the Tuesday. You will be paid your daily standard hours for the Tuesday say it’s 9-2 for example if you were there say 9-5 then you will need to claim OT at the DO for the additional 3 hrs (which the 3 hrs will probably be paid the following week as all OT gets paid that way) the rest of the week you will be paid normal hrs unless you do any OT which you’ll have to book.
Regards days off mine is also a Tuesday and to be honest is every Tuesday as that’s the quietest day so they try to push that day on as many as possible. In an ideal world it should be a rotational day off (except Saturday forget that idea as never gonna happen lol) if your contract states rotational day off make sure you push it as if not they will keep allocating you Tuesdays. Hope that all makes sense?

No worries and glad I could help.
Don’t know what your DO is like but it’s normally pretty easy to work your day off if you want too and need to bump up your wages and also grab a general few hrs a week. Obviously this all isn’t guaranteed each week but in my 6/7 weeks it does seem pretty standard.

Hi, 30 hours pay is around £290.00 take home. Don’t forget you get an increase at 6 months and 12 months. I have been doing at least 13 hours a week OT since my second week and being in the job almost a year. Hope you enjoy the job, it’s a struggle to begin with but after 6 weeks it all slots into place and you almost feel human again when you get home rather than being completely knackered!

Im on 25 hours and usually been getting just short of 300 as i have overtime each day. You also get paid for your break which i never take so get it in overtime. My office seem great at paying overtime and 2nd week i was there i got sat , sun and monday off wasnt expected it as heard they try and give newbies tues off everyweek but hasnt been the case for me.

I don't think youll get paid for the mon as you haven't started yet. Youll get any extra you do at your induction the following week.
