Mayor criticises Post Office celebrity ads

Preston's mayor has hit out at the Post Office for putting its cash into celebrity advertising as it proposes to shut branches in communities across Lancashire.

Coun Christine Abram, who fought a campaign to save three branches in the west of Preston in 2004, said that she would be fighting the current plans to close branches in the county, due to be published later this month.

She said: "I simply do not understand why they continue to advertise with big celebrity names like Joan Collins and Westlife encouraging us to use our local post office when they are still closing them down."

Preston Council used to be a standing joke with all the Councillors playing musical parties and crossing the Town Hall floor , it's been mentioned in Private Eye's Rotten Boroughs, a few times .

I respect where she's coming from , having been a Rural Councillor in Lea and RM group paying all these celebrities to be filmed in stupid adverts , one was ironically filmed in a closed Sub Post Office and people had to traipse to WH Smugs as the PO had closed the Crown Office .

Nice to see no spelling mistakes in that rag's articles for a change !
