Postman Kevin McIntyre has struggled to take requests for his autograph seriously since he wrestled the British welterweight title off fellow Scot Kevin Anderson.

But the Paisley fighter is determined to get used to his new status by repeating his shock victory over Anderson.

McIntyre makes his first defence against Anderson on February 29 at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow.

And the 29-year-old is eager to claim more publicity.

He said: "It is hard to get used to, it is funny, I just shrug my shoulders and laugh sometimes when I get asked for an autograph.

"I have been in Morrisons in Paisley and folk have stopped me for my autograph when I'm standing with my postal uniform on.

"It's a strange feeling but it's a feeling I would like to get used to and keep it going.

"I have got the same team about me and the same friends but I get more publicity.

"Everyone is on a high, I've not spoken to anyone in Paisley who is not coming to the show so I've had a bit more recognition."

McIntyre suffered five defeats in his career before the unanimous points win over favourite Anderson in November.

He lost his first British title challenge back in 2003 when he was stopped by David Barnes in the eight round.

So he is keen to enjoy his time at the top despite the added pressure of being the champion.

"There is going to be a queue behind me looking to take the title off me but I hold all the cards," he said.

"So it's a good position to be in and one I've never been in before.

"It's definitely better than sitting waiting for the phone to ring to see if you've got a fight or not.

"My goal has always been the British title so it has lifted a big weight off my shoulders.

"It has given me all the confidence in the world."

Anderson joined McIntyre in Glasgow to promote their rematch and vowed to win the title back for his family.

The Buckhaven boxer suffered the first two defeats of his career last year - the first came when he let slip his Commonwealth title against Ali Nuumbembe in February.

And he admits the return contest against McIntyre will be a pivotal moment in his career.

"He was the better man on the night and took the title and made me come away with nothing," the 24-year-old said.

"I have got a wee boy at home and had a wee girl there and went home without the belt.

"Now it's getting serious for me - I need to win to get back on track and support them."
