POSTMEN and women in Lurgan and Portadown pulled out all the stops to deliver a huge mailbag of over 2.0 and 1.9 million items respectively in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
The round-the-clock operation was part of a ‘first class’ Northern Ireland effort that saw Royal Mail handle a mailbag of approximately 60 million items over the festive period – some 20 million of which were Christmas gifts and greetings.

Michael Kennedy, Area General Manager for Royal Mail in Northern Ireland, said: “Customers depend on us, especially at Christmas when the average mailbag rises from around 2.0 million a day to over 3.2 million, and our postmen and women have worked incredibly hard to ensure that everything posted before the last recommended posting dates arrived on time.â€

I'm glad it went well, but I and many in my office thought this was worst organized Christmas for a number of years. We had pkts coming out of our asses, we were lucky to get rid of them all, in our office wew had no extra staff apart from people coming in on their rota week, we didn't have enough vans, we had to clear all mail every day, and of course we were expected to stay out until all delivered. It was a shambles, we didn't even get a 'well done'.

For the new year, we have been targeted about finishing early, thats gone, you get back early you got to go out again, or sort to time, we're 10 people short in our office, we have approx 8 or 9 people doing buy down (getting paid to go from full time to part time), so even less sorters to sort the mail.
People are already starting to leave.

This is going to be a s**t year from start to finish.

Told by an area manager when questioned about later deliveries poorer service, "no worries , they'll get used to it". He might be right ,but it don't make it so.

What a bl***y surprise. If only the public knew the contempt that RM management have for them, still they will soon find out, but guess who'll get the blame.
