LTB 721/18 - Addendum - Terms of Reference between Royal Mail Logistics and the CWU regarding the Use of Forward Facing Cameras - Extension of Trial Activity to the National Distribution Centre and Coventry VOC

No.721/2018

20th December 2018

For the Immediate Attention of All:

Postal Branches

Divisional Representatives

Area Distribution Representatives

LGV Representatives

Dear Colleagues

ADDENDUM

TERMS OF REFERENCE BETWEEN ROYAL MAIL LOGISTICS AND THE CWU REGARDING THE USE OF FORWARD FACING CAMERAS

EXTENSION OF TRIAL ACTIVITY TO THE NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTRE AND COVENTRY VOC

Branches and representatives will be aware that trial activity has been taking place in relation to the utilisation of Forward Facing Camera’s in the Network function (LTB 257/18 refers).

Feedback from the trial to date has been positive, with initial data gathered indicating that Forward Facing Cameras have the potential to benefit Royal Mail in dealing with spurious claims from third parties and reducing driver’s off road time following an accident.

However, in order to obtain more robust data the business requested that the trial be extended from November 2018 to include two additional VOC’s. Following discussion it was therefore agreed to utilise Forward Facing Cameras on a voluntary basis, at the following sites:

 National Distribution Centre (NDC) – 60 Forward Facing Cameras

 Coventry VOC – 57 Forward Facing Cameras

An Addendum to the original Terms of Reference has been agreed to allow for the extension to take place which has been endorsed by the Postal Executive, a copy of the document is attached for your information.

Colleagues will note that it has been confirmed that the processes and principles as detailed in the original July 2018 Terms of Reference will continue to be fully adhered to.

A National review of the trial activity will take place in March 2019.

Any further extension of this trial or deployment of the Forward Facing Cameras will be subject to discussion and agreement at National level.

Any enquiries in relation to this LTB should be addressed to Davie Robertson, Assistant Secretary, email: dwyatt@cwu.org or shayman@cwu.org quoting reference number: 233.03

Yours sincerely

Davie Robertson
