Christmas Temp Job Failed Criminal Record Check

Hi,

I applied for a Royal Mail Christmas temp job at my local sorting office and passed the registration stage. I recieved an email today stating that my application has been unsuccessful due to the following reason:"Our checks have revealed information that does not meet the standards for employment required by Royal Mail Group during our criminal record check process."

I do indeed have a criminal conviction, it's something I am very open and upfront about, a mistake in my past due to uncontrolled PTSD, it was very out of character and something I deeply regret. I recieved a community service order which finished two years ago which I belive makes it spent. When I filled out the application for all it asked was for me to declare any unspent convictions so I didn't think I needed to disclose it. I definitely would have if I thought this was going to happen.

The application also stated that only a basic check would be carried out which I believe means that my conviction should not have come up? I may be completely incorrect and am very open to hearing any reason for this or possible solution.

I'm absolutely gutted over this as I thought I has left all of that in the past and was now able to move forward with my life, I desperately needed the job to help fund my masters degree and lost a lot of time waiting that could have been spent applying elsewhere. I presume there is nothing I can do about this besides apply to find out the exact reason?
