Royal Mail has issued a statement after postman was injured while out delivering

A postman is recovering in the critical care unit of Liverpool’s Aintree University Hospital after being injured while on his round.

The postal worker is believed to have been standing at the side of his van in Lache Lane, Chester, when a car crashed into his stationary vehicle on Tuesday morning.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said the postman ended up underneath the van. He was removed using specialist equipment before being airlifted to hospital.

The Chronicle is not naming the postman involved but understands he has broken ribs and is feeling ‘sore’. However, he is being well looked after by medical staff and on social media has expressed thanks to everyone for sending their best wishes.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “Unfortunately one of our postmen from Chester Delivery Office was seriously injured yesterday (Tuesday, November 6) in Lache Lane, Chester, while he was out delivering. He was taken to hospital and is being treated for his injuries. We are helping the police with their enquiries. All his colleagues at the delivery office are thinking about him and his family at this difficult time.”​

Steven Davies, 46, of Mold Road, Caergwle, has since been charged with driving without due care and attention, and drink driving. Davies will appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 23.
