Preston council bosses are set to approve a plan to slash the authority's postal bill by more than £17,500 – by dumping Royal Mail for its second class mail.
The cabinet is expected to agree that all such mail will be delivered by rival operator TNT, with first class mail and special deliveries still handled by Royal Mail.
It could ultimately lead to all deliveries being switched from the Royal Mail.
A report said: "While TNT's performance is good in terms of items delivered within timescales, it was felt this would be an appropriate route for the council until confidence with the new supplier had been established."
The cabinet will meet to decide next Wednesday.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

poxy local rag , it's full of spelling/grammar and typo errors , articles that seem to have been written by a 12 year old . All you get is dreadful sports coverage about how awful Knob End are , sink estates and sentimental down memory lane tripe .
There's one regular on here that stopped reading it as he spent too much time looking for those amateurish errors .
T[b]he Council is still stuck in Parish Council mode from the 70's but it's now a "city " and the county town . The Council has been mentioned in Private Eye's Rotten Boroughs enough times , hardly surprising with Councillors playing musical chairs defecting from one party and going across the Town Hall floor to another one .
RM still has to deliver it at a loss , secondly is all this mail necessary ? , or is it a job creation exercise , somehow I can't see cut backs in that area . ( END QUOTE)
