Gill Furniss MP, Labour’s Shadow Postal Services Minister, commenting on the announcement of a further 74 Crown Post Office closures, said:

“Today’s announcement risks a further 700 jobs and is another blow to our high streets. The Government strategy of managed decline means services have suffered, affecting the most vulnerable in communities who rely on their high street post office.

“There are serious questions about transparency given the significant sums of public money used to finance the closure and franchising of the Crown Post Office network.

“The next Labour government will end the closures of our Post Offices and give communities the ability to shape their high streets and town centres, by strengthening their powers to protect post offices.’’

Yes, that's the Tories for you. Get rid of well paid crown office staff with good terms and pensions. Get staff in on minimum wage of £7.83 per hour. Disgusting.... The same amount that RM cleaners now get. And after 3 years their wage goes up by a few hundred per year. No NDA, no bonus, no F..K ALL. And the unions position. NOUGHT. At one time we were all for each other no matter what job. Doorkeeper, cleaner, phg, driver, platform, coders. We all had each others back. Then RM started to section staff off and outsource them and even though back in-house still treated like s**t. Mail centres filled with angaurds. Piss off union, sometimes you really need a good kicking.
