Christmas stamps bring disapproval

IF you have received fewer Christmas cards than normal this year, it could be because of problems with stamps.

This is the claim of some town residents who say a combination of scarcity and confusion has led to problems with sending and receiving Christmas cards this year.

One man has told how he was told a card was not delivered to him because the sender had underpaid, while another said he had to pay way over the odds to send his because his post office had no second class stamps.

Calderwood man Joe Carroll said: “I tried to get second class stamps on at least three occasions over a two week period, but was told there were none.

“I eventually had to bite the bullet and buy a load of first class stamps as I was too close to the second class deadline but it cost me considerably more.

“I’m not normally cynical, but I wonder if this was some kind of ploy by the post office.â€
