The 29-year-old vanished during his brother's stag-do in Hamburg and high-profile search was launched that lasted 72 days before his body was recovered


THE devastated family of Liam Colgan have posted a heartfelt thank you to all who supported them during the search for the tragic Scot – as they prepare for his funeral this Friday.

The 29-year-old postie had been on his brother’s stag-do in Hamburg when he went missing, sparking a huge search that lasted 72 days.

Police divers recovered a body from the water less than a mile from where he was last pictured alive on CCTV in Hamburg.

Liam’s funeral is set to take place in his home city of Inverness and it is understood it will be open to the public.

The Colgan family have requested donations be made to the Lucie Blackman Trust – a charity which supported them during his disappearance.

The search lasted 72 days until his body was found


A post from the Help Find Liam Colgan Facebook page read: “Dear friends and followers of this page.

“For a final time the family and friends of Liam Colgan would like to thank everyone for their help, support and kind messages both during the period that Liam was missing and following the tragic discovery of Liam’s body.

“The effort and generosity in helping us spread the story and assisting with the search for Liam was nothing short of phenomenal and for this we will be forever grateful.”

It continued: “Liam’s body has returned home from Hamburg and his funeral is taking place this coming Friday in his hometown of Inverness.


“For those who still wish to contribute in any way, the family have requested for no flowers but rather a donation page has been created in Liam’s memory.

“All money raised will go to the Lucie Blackman Trust, a charity that helps other families in similar situations.”

The sad news would bring an end to a huge search by cops and volunteers from both Germany and Scotland.
