Royal Mail identifies Harrow 'hotspot' addresses

The Royal Mail has identified more than 27,000 “hotspot” addresses in the UK in some way related to the Royal Family.

As the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle fast approaches, researchers from the Royal Mail revealed thousands of “Royal Address Hotspots” across the country, including several in Harrow.

They recently published a Top 20 list of addresses spanning the UK which revealed no other monarch had as much impact on the naming of Britain’s streets, houses and buildings as Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II.


The Queen’s name was used in over 6,000 addresses.

In Harrow, hotspot addresses include Balmoral Road, Buckingham Road, Holyrood Avenue, Sandringham Crescent, Windsor Close, Windsor Crescent and Windsor Road.

Their research also revealed over 10,000 UK addresses refer to members of the Royal Families past and present including “Anne Boleyn Drive” in Rochford to “King Edward Road” in Seaham; that Portsmouth has by far the most “Royal hotspots” with over 1,100 addresses, followed by west London which has over 1,000, and that Prince Harry and Meghan feature in 15 addresses; from “Prince Harry Close” in Hitchin to “Markle Grove” in Sunderland.

Some of the more unusual addresses unearthed include “Buckingham Nip” in Truro and “Catherine of Aragon House” in East Molesey.

Steve Rooney, head of Royal Mail’s Address Management Unit, said: “Delivering mail to over 30 million addresses, six days a week, gives us an unparalleled view of the nation’s street and house names, and sometimes the results are fascinating.

“Royalty has played an integral part in British culture for centuries; but it’s illuminating to see the extent of their influence on our nation’s psyche.”
