People in Rhyl have shared their theories on what happened to the pillar box
Mystery surrounds how a post box in Rhyl ended up being ripped from the ground.
Pictures emerged of the bright red pillar box lying across the pavement on Menai Avenue this morning.
Locals speculated that it would have taken “some force” to uproot it, as post boxes are usually strong enough to withstand a bomb blast.
While some suggested it could have been knocked over in an accident, ambulance crews were not called to the scene and nobody reported a crash to North Wales Police .
However, a spokesman for the force confirmed they had received reports about the damaged post box and notified the highways department and Royal Mail.
The man who took the pictures at the scene said: “It’s a mystery. It was fine 15 minutes before I took the pictures.
“I can’t tell if anyone has crashed into it.

“There isn’t any glass or broken car parts anywhere and no obvious marks on it.”
Some took to Facebook to share their thoughts on what might have happened.
One said: “It’s obvious, isn’t it? The post box fainted due to the heat! Poor thing. Condolences to its nearest and dearest.”
Another posted: “Go home post box, you are drunk.”
One man said: “Maybe someone posted airmail and it tried to take off but epic failed?”
A woman wrote: “Gosh I live in one of those bungalows and never heard or even noticed it down. I wonder what happened?”
In 1996, a post box escaped unscathed after an IRA bomb blast in Manchester.
It was one of the few structures left standing after the explosion, and the mail inside was undamaged.
It is unclear whether any mail inside the Rhyl post box has been affected.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We are aware that the postbox on Menai Avenue has been knocked over.
"We have made the site safe and are working to replace the box as soon as possible.
"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience this may cause.
"The nearest alternative box is located on Marsh Road, and customers can also drop off mail at any Post Office branch.”
