ODD socks were worn by Trowbridge post office staff to support World Down’s Syndrome Day.

Thanks to their efforts in selling the odd socks, a total of £235 was raised in aid of Down’s Syndrome Association.

“We are really grateful to the post office for doing this kind act and raising funds for a great cause,” said Gordon Perrett, who works in the force’s crime and communication centre.

“Luke Newton, a brilliant young man with Down’s Syndrome, just joined our police team after volunteering with us and on top of working eight hours a week for us he is now studying for a national vocation qualification.”

Wiltshire Police ended up selling around 1,000 pairs of socks and managed to raise more than £2000 at police stations around the county. The day on March 21 celebrated the different ways people with Down’s Syndrome make a difference to their communities.

The police work closely with WorkFit, an organisation which bridges the gap between the Down’s Syndrome Association and employers.
