Suspicious substance at Royal Mail office leaves several needing treatment

SEVERAL people are being treated at the scene after a suspicious substance in a package was found at a Royal Mail delivery office in London.

Hanwell dellivery office in Ealing was evacuated after reports of a suspicious substance being found inside a package.

Three people are being treated at the scene after the discovery.

The discovery comes after a Russian dissident was the victim of a nerve agent attack in Salisbury.

A Met Police spokesman confirmed: "Police were called at 7.41am to reports of a suspicious package at Hanwell Sorting Office, in Edinburgh Road.

"Specialist officers attended and the package is being assessed.

"London Ambulance Service attended and three people are being treated at the scene as a precaution.

"Road closures are in place while emergency services deal. Enquiries continue."

Witness Elizabeth Jenner told Get West London she saw the incident on her way home from the school run.

She said: "Traffic was heavily congested on the way and a police car was blocking the road when I got there.

"Several ambulances and response units were parked up.

"Cambridge road was taped across with two policeman standing guard."

The Met Police later confirmed that the incident was a false alarm, and people were treated as a precaution.
