Postal deliveries still catching up in Bristol almost a week after snow shut down city

Bristol residents may still be waiting for some Royal Mail deliveries, almost a week after a snow storm shut down transport across the region.

Storm Emma hit the city with full force between Thursday March 1 and Friday March 2, shutting down the airport, trains, bus services, most roads and, with them, postal deliveries.

A statement from Royal Mail, issued on Wednesday March 7, said: “Conditions continue to improve across the country following recent adverse weather. Deliveries and collections should be made in almost all areas today.

“A reducing number of places continue to be affected, particularly in central parts of Scotland, south eastern parts of Wales and the South West of England, and some areas in South East England.
“In these areas we are attempting to deliver and collect mail wherever it is safe for us to do so.”

Up to 20cm of snow fell across parts of the region as the snowstorm reached the South West.


Dozens of flights were cancelled and all bus services in Bristol were suspended during the storm, which then quickly thawed over the weekend.

The statement from Royal Mail added: “We’re sorry for the continued disruption to mail deliveries and collections experienced by some of our customers and caused by the recent severe weather conditions.

"We’re working hard to recover services as quickly as possible in all areas.”
