Edmund Park Residents frustrated by suspension of postal service

RESIDENTS of Edmund Park were left confused and frustrated when their postal delivery service was temporarily suspended without warning in January.

Until last week, locals had to collect their post from the sorting office on the Vallis Trading Estate, resulting in some people not getting important post in time.

Doug Campbell, who lives on the housing estate, said, “Lots of residents found out that post was not being delivered because of apparent health and safety issues to Royal Mail staff because of building site work, which is ridiculous as they were delivering before, when it was worse.

“There was no communication to tell us that deliveries were going to stop, it was only from talking to neighbours that we started to realise we weren’t getting our post.

“This meant residents had to collect their mail every day from Vallis Road distribution centre. Many people did not get important letters like hospital appointments etc as they were not informed at all of the changes implemented.

“We failed to get a vet bill for our cat and we were contacted by our vets telling us that we hadn’t paid our bill.

“We are not sure when they stopped the service, but when we collected our letters there were some dated before the 26th January, so that’s three weeks at the very least.”

Normal service resumed on the estate after last week. A Royal Mail spokesperson said, “We can confirm that deliveries were suspended for a short time at Edmund Park due to construction machinery rendering the area unsafe for our postmen and women.

“The safety and welfare of our staff is paramount and we only suspend deliveries as a last resort when the safety of our staff is at risk. We apologise to customers for any inconvenience this caused. Deliveries to Edmund Park recommenced this week. Anyone with concerns about their mail can contact our customer services team on 03457 740740.”
