It shut its doors suddenly in December

A Cardiff post office which closed days before Christmas is yet to reopen.

Pictures of the shop in January showed a number of undelivered parcels and letters stacked inside the building.

The Post Office has now confirmed it is working to reopen the facility for the community.

A spokesman for the Post Office said: “Unfortunately, Llanishen Post Office has temporarily closed due to some unforeseen personal circumstances of colleagues at the branch.

“The majority of our branches are run by independent retailers, so we are not the owners of the premises and regrettably, this means that sometimes we are unable to immediately reopen the branch ourselves.

“However, whatever the circumstances, we always want to see services as restored as quickly as possible, and we are working hard to reopen this branch for the community.”

Councillor Phil Bale, who serves Llanishen, welcomed the news that the “well used” service in the area could be reopened.

Coun Bale said: “I welcome the news that the Post Office hope to maintain services run in Llanishen which is well used by the local community.

“With people being made to go to other Post Office services it’s had a knock on affect on businesses in the community.”

Councillor John Lancaster, who serves Llanishen, said: “It was a massive part of the community.

“It’s not so convenient for people to go to Thornhill. Lots of people in Llanishen used to go there.

“It’s good to see that it’s planned to be re-opened in the future. It will be good to see it up and running.”
