Royal Mail to keep Oldbury office instead of relocating to Halesowen

ROYAL Mail bosses have decided against closing down its Oldbury delivery office and merging with the Halesowen depot.

Over the past six months, the company has been looking into its delivery operations and the relocation of services to the office in Coombswood Way was on the cards.

But following feedback from staff and discussions with unions, it has been decided to keep the Oldbury office.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “Since July 2017, Royal Mail has been reviewing its delivery operations in Oldbury and exploring the option of relocating them to our office in Coombs Wood.

“We have also discussed this with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and our people based at that site.

“After careful consideration and feedback from our people, we have decided that Oldbury delivery office will remain at its current site. This is supported by the CWU.

“This means there will be no change to our mail operations in Oldbury and there will be no impact on the high quality service we offer to our customers.

“The same postmen and women will continue to serve the local community.”

About 45 Royal Mail staff are based at the Oldbury delivery office, in Bridge Street, which delivers to addresses across the B68 and B69 postcode areas.
