Newbie update

Just completed my 5th week. As expected it has been very busy and a steep learning curve. One week left until xmas, then a pre booked week off. It's been tough both mentally and physically, but i know that if I can do the job at one of the busiest times of the year Then I should be good in 2018. There were days when I could have walked out, but i think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Glad to hear you've survived what's pretty much the worst time of year! I'm still in the offer stage and waiting for my welcome pack and final confirmation email (I replied to one on the 8th with my bank details and stuff but I'm waiting to hear back)

Presuming it goes smoothly I'll just have bad weather to deal with (thermals at the ready haha)

Is it as tough as you'd expected or a little easier than what you thought it would be?

I always advise newbies to book holiday at the end of the first month when joining. You need it mentally and physically after joining this madhouse :)

To be honest, there is a lot to take in. I'm sure I was over thinking the job, when in reality there was no need to...delivering mail is like following a paper trail. I have tweaked things such as writing down house numbers which have small packets that are carried in my pouch, so that I don't miss any. Induction is nothing like the reality. I was delivering my own walk after 4 days. Best advice is to not rush, don't over think the job trying to remember everything, and scan every packet/parcel..

You or the person prepping your duty can "P" or Turn letters for addresses that have packets (or the nearest to them)

Thanks for that bit of insight from a newbie!

My main worry at the moment is my status still says "offer" and I've not heard back since I emailed them on the 8th to send my bank details and accept my induction date. How long did it take you for your status to change? I'm tempted to ring the Sheffield number tomorrow and see what's going on though.

I’d suggest sitting tight, your application will be updated in due time. Do remember we are in the run up to Xmas with the business going full throttle in all departments. Naturally this will lead to delays of non urgent functions.

Just relax and enjoy your Xmas.

I guess I'm maybe impatient in starting haha, can't wait to get out and learn and be a postie.

8th of Jan. If it updates I'll let you know. I'm on holiday from my current work for a couple of weeks so I'll keep an eye on things and see if it updates between now and the end of Dec.

It's an early Christmas present, email has come with the offer letter email. Just the contract through the post to wait for. Once I get that I'll fill the forms I was linked to in.
