Postal workers return to work after walkout, Royal Mail confirms

ROYAL Mail has confirmed that postal workers in St Helens have returned to work today after staging a walkout on Thursday.

Dozens of Royal Mail workers were stood outside the delivery office on Liverpool Road from around 8am yesterday morning.

The Star understands the walkout has followed a dispute with management. More than 100 workers are taking part in the walkout.

Postmen and union reps would not give comment on the matter when asked.

Royal Mail yesterday expressed disappointment that "unballoted industrial action" had taken place, affecting WA9, WA10 and WA11 areas.


They stated they were doing all they can to minimise this disruption by bringing in extra resources from the neighbouring area.

Today Royal Mail confirmed that all workers have returned with deliveries taking place.

Spokesperson Sally Hopkins said: "Royal Mail can confirm that all staff returned to work at St Helens delivery office this morning (November 17).

"Mail deliveries and collections will be made across the WA9, WA10 and WA11 postcode areas today and we are doing all we can to return all services to normal as quickly as possible.

"We apologise to customers for the disruption to our services yesterday as a result of the unballoted industrial action taken by the CWU.”

I take it all the Local DIMs & DOMs had to get their walking shoes on? Do them good to get some fresh air & excercise.
