Police are hunting a man who threatened staff at the Westerhope Post Office on Chatsworth Gardens

A knife-wielding robber is being hunted after a post office raid.

Just before 5.30pm on Monday, a man targeted the Westerhope Post Office on Chatsworth Gardens in Newcastle.

The man, who is believed to be in his 20s, entered the shop wearing a motorcycle helmet and was armed with a knife.

Police said staff were left “shaken” by the incident but nobody was injured. It is not yet known what items were taken during the robbery.

Northumbria Police is now appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.

A police spokesman said: “An offender approached staff armed with what is being described as a knife.

“The offender has been described as a male in their 20s wearing a motorbike helmet. No one was injured however the staff have been left shaken.

“It’s yet to be confirmed exactly what’s been taken. Police officers will remain in the area to investigate and reassure the community.”
