A THANK YOU with a difference is planned for Gwyneth Morgan, who is retiring from delivering post in the Forest, after 27 years this month.

Residents of Northwood Green, near Westbury-on-Severn, are organising a party to thank Gwynie, as she is known, for a quarter of a century of service in their village alone.

Local resident, Viv Hargreaves, said: “Dot Roberts has arranged a special thank you celebration at Northwood Green Hut on Saturday, September 16 at 1pm.

“Gwynie originally worked on ships’ mail in the Army before returning home and following in her Buckshaft mum’s footsteps – although she swore she never would be a postie in civvy street.

“She has numerous postie tales to tell. She was attacked by a pheasant which used to lie in wait for her in Down Ampney Lane, Northwood Green, and a gaggle of geese caused a stir so she used to make her mum go first.

“She also has stories of being attacked by a ferocious rescue dog at one extreme and at the other of meeting the Queen in her Army days, because she had to deliver the mail to Buckingham Palace.”

Gwynie has two daughters, one of whom lives next door to her in Huntley and the other in London. She also has four grandchildren.
