Harrow delivery office could transfer to new site at Greenford but collection facility should remain

Royal Mail is considering moving a number of its delivery offices to a single site as it seeks to increase its efficiency across the country.

Offices at Harrow, Northolt and Wembley could be moved to a new station in Greenford and it has already begun exploring options to make this happen.

The situation in Harrow has been on Royal Mail’s radar for a number of years as the existing office, in Elmgrove Road, no longer meets the necessary requirements while there is no option to renew the lease from 2020.

Attempts were made to find a suitable site in the area but these were unsuccessful and, as a result, it has been mentioned as a component in the Greenford proposal.

If the move does go ahead, it is expected that it would happen in early 2019.

Royal Mail explained that it is looking at retaining a mail collection facility in Harrow for customers if they are not at home when it attempted delivery and could not leave the item with a neighbour.

It added that it has a “strong track record of managing change” and will work with its staff and unions to give them the opportunity to discuss the implications in detail.
