Vehicle design is difficult. You want your model to look slick, strong, but also beautiful.
Not many van designers aim for the ‘cute’ look while mapping out their creations, but whether intended or not, that’s exactly what Royal Mail have ended up with for their new electric delivery vans.
The adorable little red vans have been getting some serious love online, with people comparing them to their childhood toys, and even suggesting the design was influenced by the greatest fictional postman of all time – Postman Pat.
People have taken to Twitter to share images of the van – some of which are asking if each one comes with a black and white cat…
The electric vans, which have been created in partnership with Arrival, are being trialled in London.
They have been made using ultra-lightweight materials, and are expected to cut operating costs by 50 percent.
Paul Gatti, the Royal Mail fleet’s managing director, said: ‘Royal Mail is delighted to be collaborating with Arrival and pioneering the adoption of large electric commercial vehicles.
‘We will be putting them through their paces over the next several months to see how they cope with the mail collection demands from our larger sites.
‘We have trialled electric trucks before but not of this type of innovative design and look forward to see what additional benefits they can bring to our existing fleet of around 49,000 vehicles.’
