ROYAL Mail has been forced to seal up a postbox in Worcester after dog mess was repeatedly pushed inside.
The postbox, on the corner of Woodland Road and Kingston Avenue near Perdiswell Park, has been taped up until the weekend so that a ‘deep clean’ can be carried out after un-bagged excrement was pushed inside.
And Royal Mail has warned that the box will be closed permanently if the dog mess posts don’t stop.
A notice placed on the postbox said: “Due to dog litter being placed in this box on numerous occasions, it has now been sealed up pending a deep clean.
“If this behaviour continues then this box will be closed permanently in order to protect customers’ mail.”
A Royal Mail spokesman added that it was ‘unacceptable’ that their staff should have to collect mail once dog mess has been posted through the box.
The spokesman said: “Royal Mail would like to apologise to any customers who have been unable to post their mail on the corner of Woodland Road and Kingston Avenue.
“A few days ago, we were made aware of dog excrement being posted into the postbox.
“As such we have taped the box up to stop it from being used, as it is unacceptable that our postmen and women should have to experience this whilst going about their work.
“All our people should be able to carry out their roles safely.
“The box was closed up on Tuesday and will be closed until the end of this week. We are then hopeful that this behaviour will stop and we can open it once again to our customers.
“In the meantime, customers who wish to post their mail can do so at the nearest postbox located on Droitwich Road, which is less than half a mile away.”
The spokesman added: “We have reported these incidents to the police and would encourage anyone with any information to contact them or Royal Mail Customer Services on 03457 740740 .”
