Post Office in Plymouth to close as Postmaster resigns

A Post Office in Plymouth is set to close following the resignation of its Postmaster.

The Stoke branch in Devonport Road will shut temporarily next month, with bosses saying they "hope to restore services as soon as possible".

In a letter to customers, a Post Office spokesman said: "We would welcome any applications from potential retail partners interested in running Stoke Post Office on our behalf.

"Any future changes to service provision would be handled in line with our code of practice which sets out how we communicate and explain changes to the Post Office network.

"I would like to apologise for the inconvenience the temporary closure may cause."

A Post Office spokesman said: "The Postmaster for Stoke has resigned as she wishes to retire.

"The branch is due to close at the existing premises on Saturday, August 19 at 4.30pm.

"We are committed to maintaining a Post Office in the area.

"The vacancy is currently advertised on our website runapostoffice.co.uk.

"This is a temporary closure while we continue to look for a new operator.

"The nearest alternative branches are Wolseley Road and Devonport."

Sam Davey, Labour councillor for Stoke on Plymouth City Council, said it is important to save a "small business providing a vital service to the community."
