Why do royal mail try to get rid of staff on the sick?
I know staff who are off sick and not even at the 2 month stage and they are trying to offer ways as in a buy down of hours or Early Medical Retirement! Is this happening acoss the board? is there a certain time when a member of staff is off for b4 they start offering things like this?

Pressure full stop from above , opportunity for brownie points in a 70's Command & Control style .Talk of league tables , percentages , Area are on fixed term ,subject to appraiasals contracts .k979aaa wrote:To save on redundices pay outs to staff and to get partime lower paid staff on 20 hour contract's cut the pension liabilaty and sickpay and the old chestnut you cant teach an old dog new trick's( you cannot pull the wool over a sheep's eye's)!madelin4 wrote:I know staff who are off sick and not even at the 2 month stage and they are trying to offer ways as in a buy down of hours or Early Medical Retirement! Couldn't agree more with the above , the difference is that elsewhere it can be handled better and it doesn't turn into a three part melodrama with a blame culture that goes with that regimented style .
As a result it's real "best practice " to not end up in Tribunals , Solictors being involved or Horror stories on Forums or in the media or defensiveness off RM , and RM trying to make black look like white .
Seen it all in another ex nationalised industry , one rep wasn't impressed with a member being told by the Personnel Manager " Let us sack you , you'll get all your benefits off the social " , the member might have lost half of his pension money . Other ex Utilities people on here could tell similar tales .
Another old boy asked a area manager if his name if his name was Eichmann , he said it was actually Einnmann, not very PC ! . The GP said "Your knees aren't getting any better Dave , I'm signing you off forthwith , tell me if they give you any trouble , they'll have me to answer to".
Apparently it's not bullying ,it's merely "Pressure for Change ", so it's allright then.
