Newbie postie with driving here! I had my induction yesterday and started at my DO today at 8.45am, so didn't really see anything happening as everyone had left for their rounds.

Bit of confusion so far - when I applied it said 27.5 hours with shift starting at 8.45am. Surely, to be a postie you start much earlier? My manager threw a lot of info at me but in between it all, I thought I heard him say they start at 6.30am? That's quite different to the hours I thought I'd be doing. So would this mean overtime if I started earlier? Or do they just change your times anyway?

Also, can I change the footwear I've ordered as I seem to have been given Anvil trainers (didn't get a choice over phone) and they seem a bit naff, and I'm reading that Cat boots are better?

Thanks :-)

Welcome, I think 8:45 is a normal start time for a part timer. I start at 9:30 on a 26.5 hour contract. From 6:30 in your office the full timers will be prepping the Mail ready for delivery. It just means you do little indoor work as a part timer, when I get in at 9:30 my Mail is all in the frame ready for me to pull down into bundles. I then bag it up and load it into the van along with my parcels. My delivery is roughly 4 hours more or less depending on the volume that day. I then get back to the office, put everything away and prep the door to doors into the frame for the next day. That's a part timers job in a nutshell.

You'll probably be shadowing someone for the first couple weeks, then should be taken out and shown the walk you'll be on for the first couple days then on your own, with P&L partner of course.

Your boots will already be on the way, but you can return them once they've arrived. There will be a return slip in the bag, fill it in and it'll also have the return address on there to write on the outside of the parcel bag. You can return them through internal mail in your DO. I find it easier to phone them up and let them know you'll be returning them and order your new items at the same time. Saves you waiting on them receiving the items before dispatching your new order.

Good luck.
